Presentation

The Ultra Endurance and Extreme Conditions Congress will take place from Sunday 06 to Tuesday 08 April 2025 on Campus1 of the University of Caen, in the prestigious Pierre DAURE Amphitheatre.

The congress is organized by the VERTEX Research Unit, with the support of the University of Caen and our UFR STAPS, and we are delighted to welcome you back 3 years after our first edition. This congress will address the cross-cutting issues of Ultra-Endurance.

The aim of this congress is to present the latest scientific knowledge and technological innovations concerning the factors contributing to performance in ultra-endurance sports or in the exploration of extreme environments. In disciplines such as the Ultra Trail, sailing races, open-water swimming, ultra-cycling and expeditions in extreme environments, we'll be tackling themes such as thermoregulation, mental preparation, nutrition, sleep deprivation, fatigue, impacts on health, injuries, addictive behaviours, determinants of motivation, changes in practice since the Covid-19 health crisis, and innovative technologies to improve performance.

The Ultra Endurance and Extreme Conditions Congress is organized in 2 phases and is aimed at different audiences:

  • The “General Public” day on Sunday April 06, 2025 aims to popularize scientific knowledge applied to the everyday life of athletes. Top-level athletes working with teams of researchers will make the link between their experiences and the management of their training, sleep, nutrition and preparation strategies. Together with all the teams who took part in the Trail Scientifique de Clécy in November 2021, we'll be delighted to present and discuss the results of this unique study. It will also be an opportunity to sign the book “Dans les Sentiers de la Science - l'expérience du Trail Scientifique de Clécy”, by Frédéric Berg, published by Mons. The day will feature a variety of stands and workshops, and will close with a conference on the extraordinary performance of women in Ultra Endurance, and we're honored to welcome some extraordinary athletes for the occasion. Check out the program!
  • Monday April 07 and Tuesday April 08 are aimed more at the scientific community and health and training professionals. These two days will be organized around symposia and an exciting moment of exchange with a Master Class “Measuring in-situ and Optimizing Performance in Ultra Endurance”. Physiological measurements in real time will be organized in the form of practical workshops. Bring your sports gear!

Finally, we would like to encourage students to come and present their work, and we will be awarding “Young Researcher Prizes” for the best oral communication and the best Poster.

We invite you to submit your oral or poster communications in line with the themes of this congress and the symposia on offer.

We look forward to seeing many of you there,

The Organizing Committee
